This was one of my dad's favorite songs from when he was younger and before I was born. He told me that he used to play this song for one of my great aunts (rest her soul) and at 4:26, she would wonder what happened to the radio because the song appeared to have turned choppy or something. Of course, dad told her that's how the song was supposed to sound.
